Professor/ Associate Professor in Archaeology

The School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies is seeking to appoint a Professor/Associate Professor with a specialization in Middle Stone Age/Middle Palaeolithic archaeology. The candidate will also be expected to commence employment on the 01 January 2016 and will teach aspects of the Earlier, and Later Stone Age. Preference will be given to candidates with an NRF rating, field experience and the ability to develop a local research focus.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree and will have an excellent record of independent field research, fund raising for research, publications in top international journals and presentations at international conferences, postgraduate student supervision, undergraduate teaching and academic citizenship which include administrative work and outreach. The primary appointment criteria will be proven research excellence in Middle Stone Age/Middle Palaeolithic archaeology and excellent postgraduate supervision record.

DUTIES: Responsibilities will include undergraduate as well as postgraduate teaching and supervision, an active programme of research and publication, and service to the Archaeology Division, School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies and the University. All candidates will be given full consideration.

Remuneration: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank.
